STM-Ⅴ Krebs Stormer Viscometer is an instrument applicable to determine the viscosity of the paints and other coating materials that are expressed in KU values.
Krebs Stormer Viscometer is an instrument applicable to determine the viscosity of the paints and other coating materials that are expressed in KU values. There is no need for weights. It is developed from STM-VII Stormer Viscometer. The operator can directly read out the KU values or the associated gram value (gm) of the tested samples from the LCD.
The Stormer Viscometer adopts single slice microprocessor, with a serial printer port.
An operator immerse the spindle into the fluid. If the correct amount of fluid has been put into the container, the surface of the fluid will be at the immersion mark of the spindle. The operator can directly read out the KU values or the associated gram value (gm) of the tested samples from the display.

1. When installing the viscometer, locate the instrument on a sturdy bench apart from environment of strong draught﹑strong magnetic field﹑strong electrical field﹑strong electromagnetic pulse disturbance.
2. Testing Environment: 25℃±2℃, relative humidity should not be over 75%.
3. Sample temperature should be 25℃±2℃.
1. Take the instrument out from the box, put it on the worktable.
2. Take the viscometer handle out from the box, tighten the handle.
3. Take the paddle out from the box, loosen the thumb screw on the viscometer shaft, insert the paddle spindle into the viscometer shaft, as far as it will go. Line up the groove on the spindle with the hole that the thumb screw goes into. Tighten the thumb screw.
4. Attach the power cord to the appropriate power source, turn on the viscometer power switch which is on the back of viscometer. The viscometer displays company’s name﹑website、type & name of instrument、serial number、production date and “Motor hasn’t rotated, Please move the viscometer handle down”, indicating normal operation. Next step immerse the spindle into the fluid.
5. Pour the sample into the container. Fill to 20mm of the container lip. Level can’t be too shallow, otherwise level can’t reach immersion mark of the spindle, it will increase measuring error.
6. Place the sample container directly on the can adapter mounted on the viscometer base. Move the viscometer handle down to the lowest position. This will automatically immerse the spindle into the fluid. If the correct amount of fluid has been put into the container, the surface of the fluid will be at the immersion mark of the spindle. The spindle rotates immediately, “Data are in process, Please wait……9s” display on the screen. 1 will automatically deduct from 9s every second until 0s. After finishing data processing, KU values (first line) and load,cP values (second line)of test sample simultaneously display on the screen.
7. After finishing testing, move the operating handle to the top (upper most) position, limit device is on the top position so as to keep handle up. This stops the spindle from rotating.
8. If the viscosity of test sample (such as pure water) is lower than measuring range (40.2KU/32g), the instrument will display “Your sample hasn’t reached the measuring range”, then displaying “Load: 0000g, KU: 000.0KU”; when the viscosity of test sample exceeds measuring range (141.0KU/1099g), the instrument will display “Your sample has exceeded the measuring range”, then displaying “Load: 8888g, KU: 888.8KU”. Once this circumstance happens, move the operating handle to the top position, this stops the motor from rotating, otherwise it will damage hairspring.
Conversion between viscosity and load. Viscosity in Pa·s is converted to load in gm. according to the equation so as to get a load of each oil to produce 200r/min.
1. There are fine measuring parts in the box, when carrying the viscometer, it should be handled gently.
2. Disassemble a viscometer’s cabinet with a professional so as to avoid influencing accuracy of gauging. Don’t rotate the spindle with a hand, otherwise it will break accuracy of hairspring.
4. Be sure the handle in the up position not in down position when not using, otherwise causing not mobility in up-and-down movement.
5. Viscosity is strongly temperature dependent, temperature drift during the test should be smaller than 0.20C when repeatedly testing same sample. A designated measured distance marked on the spindle, the tolerance shall be smaller than 0.5mm.
6. We recommend that you return your viscometer to our company on an annual basis for detection service.
