Ⅰ.Introduction：

BHY-I type Buckholtz indentation tester is used for indentation test of coatings with plastic deformation behavior, in line with the provisions of the national standard GB/T 9275 and international standard ISO 2815. The instrument consists of a Pasteur indentation block, a precision microscope with calibration and light source, and a transparent plastic marking film. The Baber indentation block has a double cone indentation knife and two sharp tapered feet. The Pasteur indentation block was placed on the paint for 30 seconds and then removed. The length of the residual indentation was observed and read with a precision microscope by means of the triangular positioning on the transparent plastic marking film.

The Buchholtz indentation tester is not suitable for paints with elastic deformation behavior because the residual indentation of the elastic coating will disappear or become small when the instrument is removed.
